Ten percent of what you pay leaves with someone else.
Every piece here is placed bead by bead or printed on our own machines. Ten percent of what you pay for one goes out before we've counted a single bead, a spool of filament, the platform's cut, or an hour of our own time. Here is exactly how that number is figured and where it lands.
What counts as a sale
A percentage claim is only as honest as its denominator, so ours is written down. Ten percent is calculated on the order price, meaning what you actually paid, with three narrow exceptions.
Counted
- Every piece, whether it comes through our own shop or a marketplace
- Custom commissions, including any setup or design fee
- Convention, craft fair, and wholesale sales
- Gift cards, counted when you spend them
- The marketplace's commission and our processing fees, which are our problem and don't shrink your ten percent
Not counted
- Sales tax, which was never ours to give
- Shipping we collect and hand to the carrier at cost
- Refunds, returns, and chargebacks
The one that matters: on a marketplace order, we count the full price you paid, not the smaller amount the platform passes to us. A $50 order gives $5, even when $7.50 of it never reaches our account.
Where it goes
Two causes, an equal share each, reviewed once a year. Both recipients are registered 501(c)(3) charities in good standing. We picked two rather than ten so the money arrives somewhere in an amount that matters.
A parent caring for a child with complex medical or developmental needs is often on duty around the clock, with no realistic way to hand off for an afternoon. This share funds free, properly trained respite care: a few hours where someone qualified takes over and the time belongs to the family again. We chose a recipient close enough to home that we can see the work rather than read about it.
LGBTQ+ teenagers reach a crisis point far more often than their peers do, and what helps is unglamorous: a trained person who answers immediately, at any hour, free and in confidence. This share pays to keep that line staffed by phone, by text, and by chat, for young people who need one.
We haven't put the organizations' names on this page yet, and that's deliberate. We've asked each of them in writing for permission to use their name, and until it's granted we'd rather show you a blank than a logo we don't have the right to display. The money is already going out either way. The names appear here as consent comes back.
When, and how you can check
The ten percent is set aside the week your order clears, and disbursed within thirty days of each quarter's close in March, June, September, and December. Since we aren't naming the organizations yet, the numbers are how you hold us to this. We post every quarter here, split by cause, and we keep receipts for seven years. Ask for them and we'll send them.
If a year ever comes where we can't carry the full ten, we'll say so here before we change what we pay, not after.
The honest fine print
Your order is not a charitable donation, and it isn't tax-deductible for you. You're buying a handmade object; we make the gift out of what you paid, and the deduction, where there is one, is ours. Anyone who tells you otherwise about a "portion of proceeds" purchase is selling you a feeling.
